2022 Online Keyword Review: Health Information Surprises at the Top? ViuTV Programs and MIRROR Make the Top Three
As we stand at the beginning of 2023, before setting new visions and goals, it's essential to look back at the past year. Google recently released the 2022 Hong Kong Year in Search, highlighting the most searched keywords over the past year, with "Vaccine Appointment," "Mandatory Testing," and "iPhone 14" topping the list. Do these results align with the trends on mainstream social media in Hong Kong?
uMax Data focused on posts from Facebook pages, Instagram, and YouTube of various major media outlets in 2022. Using social listening, we analyzed the most interactive posts on Facebook to identify the most frequently used keywords and calculated the social media interaction index (heat value) to create word clouds, revealing netizens' discussion focuses. The larger the font in the word cloud, the higher the interaction and response level to that keyword among netizens.
(Figure 1: Statistics of the highest interaction posts in 2022)
We analyzed the top 30 highest interaction posts and found that health information posts accounted for 47%, followed by discussions on ViuTV dramas and programs (23%) and MIRROR (13%). Recently, the relaxation of travel restrictions has also drawn attention to posts about popular travel destinations for Hong Kong residents, such as Japan. We previously published a report on Hong Kong's tourism industry. The passing of renowned Hong Kong director Chor Yuen and fencing champion Cheung Ka Long winning his first international gold medal since the Tokyo Olympics at the Men's Foil World Cup in Paris also garnered significant reactions.
We analyzed the hot keywords for the above topics to see which ones appeared most frequently.
Health: Hong Kong Residents Most Concerned About "Three Highs" (High Blood Pressure, High Blood Sugar, High Cholesterol)
(Figure 2: Health: Hong Kong residents are most concerned about "Three Highs")
The most frequently mentioned keywords were "heart" (1,373 times), "patient" (1,239 times), "high blood pressure" (1,026 times), "heart disease" (988 times), and "diabetes" (914 times). It is evident that the "Three Highs" received the most media attention, while the second most mentioned keyword, "patient," was mainly related to posts about COVID-19 cases.
ViuTV: Dramas and Programs Garner the Most Attention

MIRROR: Concert Incident, Fan Support, and Tickets as Focal Points
(Figure 4: MIRROR: Concert incident, fan support, and tickets as focal points)
The most frequently mentioned keywords were "concert" (1,080 times), "fan" (564 times), and "member" (457 times). The incident at MIRROR's first concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum attracted significant attention and continuous media coverage, making "concert" the top keyword related to MIRROR in 2022. The strong support from MIRROR fans also caused a significant social media reaction. Tickets for the 2022 Ultimate Song Chart Awards Ceremony were another focal point, as the limited availability and lack of public sale led to controversy.
